I've never been to New York city. But I love cold calling them.
If you are selling a product over the phone and want to get good at it. Call New York.
Have you ever heard of the 30 second pitch? You will in about five phone calls to someone in the 516 or 212. That is because they will literally give you the 30 seconds.
So you have to be a master at what you are saying. You can't "um, ahh and umm" or your going to get hung up on so fast that you won't even know what hit you.
But that's the best part. Cold calling New York is hard. New Yorkers eat their young, but if you can sell to them, you can sell anywhere.
Frankly if you are in business to make money you will realize that your time is money. In New York they understand this and will tell you if they are not interested. They will also be kind enough to tell you No.
You want to be told No. Because the more No you get the faster you will get to a yes. I currently live in Kentucky where people are too fucking nice. They aren't blunt enough to tell you know. They'll talk to you forever about a bunch of bullshit killing your time. Look, I'm not saying rapport isn't important, but you should also be on a serious look out for who is an interested buyer, and who is just stalling and killing YOUR time.
Grab a stack of New York or New Jersey leads sometime and crank on them. You'll get better way faster then if you train on people who are nice. You aren't going to make money with nice people who are too nice to tell you no. You are going to make money learning how to deal with people who only give you a small window, but will tell you straight forward where you stand.
I love NY ;)
